BEHIND THE NAME

Managing Director since 2024 and the creative force behind all our projects. “Deaf can do” – with this motto, I want to show everyone that we are also capable of running a business and inspiring people to take up watersports through German Sign Language.

Communication is not a barrier but the key to a relationship on equal terms.

In 2014, I successfully completed my degree in sign language interpreting in Magdeburg. I lived there until mid-2019, working as a freelance sign language interpreter. I have been living and working in Stralsund since June 2019. However, I also enjoy working internationally on cruises to South-East Asia or coach trips to London and Prague. I am originally from Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia.

I’ve been hooked on kitesurfing since 2015 and, thanks to Pia, I’ve been able to improve my skills.

My loyal and crazy Labrador, Jolla, has been part of my life since 2016. I’m sure you’ll get to meet her at one of the camps :-).

I have been a qualified VDWS kitesurfing instructor since 2026. I always bring a cheerful attitude, plenty of enthusiasm and motivation to the water. My greatest passion is working with children and young people; I always love seeing their eyes light up.

Since 2012, I have worked every summer at the Tikibar on Ummanz alongside my studies, where I also first discovered and fell in love with windsurfing and kitesurfing a few years ago. After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I obtained my VDWS kitesurfing instructor licence in 2015 and worked at various kitesurfing camps around the world. In 2018, I completed my Master’s degree in International Management and have now been involved in the start-up scene in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for several years. Thanks to an adult education centre course and with Marie’s help, I’ve learnt some basics of German Sign Language 😉 I spend a lot of time on Ummanz and love practising water sports here and exploring the island with my little mixed-breed dog, Lika.

I discovered my passion for the water about 8 years ago whilst on a surf camp in France.

Ever since then, the water has fascinated me in all sorts of ways. Sporty, and sometimes rather crazy, activities are part of my lifestyle. I’m open to lots of things and enjoy trying out new experiences.

I’ve been a physiotherapist since 2016 and am now self-employed. Naturally, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to become a kitesurfing instructor for native German Sign Language (DGS) speakers!

And so I’m delighted to be part of the team and to experience DeafVentures with you all.
